Me and EFU Life

I’m Zeshan Aslam, Senior Business Manager, with over 17 years of experience in the Life Assurance industry. Joining this profession has been one of the best decisions of my life, a life where only decisions truly matter. We live in a society where career counselling is often missing, both in schools and at home. For me, everything changed on January 1, 2008, when I met Sir Ehsan Ul Haq, who was then the Branch Manager of the Faisalabad location. During the interview, I found him to be a humble and pleasant personality. He asked me thoughtful questions and patiently addressed my concerns.

I was drawn to the role immediately. The job description aligned perfectly with my personality, meeting new people and building long-term relationships. Sir Ehsan said something that stuck with me: “You’re an outsider, coming all the way from Mailsi. To succeed here, you must understand the core values of this profession and sharpen your soft skills.” He then asked, “Are you ready to learn something new?” I said yes and joined on January 3, 2008.

The Initial Career

There’s a famous quote: “Luck is nothing but the encounter of your preparation and opportunity.”

Looking back, I realize how true that is.

In the early days of my career, I found it fascinating to observe my Branch Manager, Sir Ehsan Ul Haq, as he carried out his daily business tasks. What began as casual observation soon transformed into what I now call “The Basics of Life Assurance Selling Manual.”

I had the privilege of learning the fundamentals of effective selling, basic communication, ice-breaking, presenting the "paint picture", negotiation, asking the right questions, addressing concerns, and guiding the prospect to the point where they could answer the biggest question of all: “Why?”

One of the most valuable lessons he taught me was to sometimes walk away without closing the sale to give the client time to reflect. Today, as a consultant, I truly believe that this approach plays a vital role in maintaining strong persistency ratios. My Branch manager played a key role in introducing me to the essentials of underwriting. I learned how age, education, profession, personal habits, family history, and current health status influence the financial plan being proposed to a client.

He often said: “Always begin with the end in mind.”

His emphasis on after-sales service became one of the cornerstones of my approach. I saw how he kept the original "paint picture" page and used it every four years to revisit the client's original needs a technique that proved powerful in both retention (renewal payments) and growth (reselling or plan alterations).

Every prospect, I learned, is an opportunity either for business or for learning. Sometimes, it’s about building a successful professional relationship, and sometimes it’s simply about learning how to handle new questions. People differ across their professional, family, and social lives but these three circles are where most of us are emotionally invested. Our role, as financial consultants, is to understand this emotional connection and offer our services with empathy, integrity, and purpose.

Handled with sincerity, these emotional insights often lead to strong, lasting business relationships. Over the past 17 years, I’ve come to embrace a key professional belief:

“Staying true to myself is staying true to my clients.”

For everything I’ve learned and achieved, I am deeply grateful to my mentors:

Sir Ehsan Ul Haq (Ex-Branch Manager), who laid the foundation of my professional journey

Sir Sikandar Arshad (SRM Hemayah Takaful), who continues to remind me of the days I fall short always pushing me to improve

Dr. Asad Hadi (UPID, Head Office), who still teaches me the intricacies of medical and financial underwriting and to all my seniors who have helped sharpen my skills and shape my career.

Opportunities

The definition of a Business is very simple "Pitching an acceptable solution to a specific problem". Almost every successful business works on this simple definition. In our business this fits in the same manner. When we look around in our Social, family and Professional circles, no financial alternatives are being offered by The Government or The social groups. If someone is in a dire need of the funds for his family, he has nothing left except selling his valuables or the hard earned assets and in the same way if the bread winner of a family dies, the whole family is at stake and the very first thing happens is "Selling out the same Valuables". EFU Life offers a wide range of financial plans designed to support individuals and families across all segments of the population providing both emotional and financial security during life’s most challenging moments. We all experience difficult times in the journey of life, and having the right financial support can make a world of difference.

While we’ve made great progress, there are still significant market gaps to address and much more to learn. Financial prosperity remains our shared goal and it is deeply interdependent. When we work with professionalism, integrity, and a client-first mindset, we not only help our clients thrive — we grow and prosper alongside them.

My Message

At EFU Life, we are part of a profession that offers an exciting opportunity, not just to earn, but to learn and grow. This career has the potential to take us as far as our dreams can reach and even further. It enables us to expand those dreams and turn them into reality.

As Peter Drucker once said, “Marketing is a whole business seen from the client’s point of view.” At EFU Life, we are empowered to work with this very mindset, putting the client first while building a better future for ourselves.

I’ve closely observed the market and our competitors. While the prospects we approach may be the same, the skills, training, and support provided by EFU Life place us a step ahead. That difference is what drives both personal and professional success.

Wishing all of us continued growth and success.

Here’s to happy and quality business ahead!
